The mother of two grown daughters, Laura has always had an interest in the issues facing women and girls both locally and around the world. After reading Half the Sky by Nicholas Kristof and and Sheryl WuDunn, she was anxious to find a way to help women and girls overcome the hurdles that prevent them from living fulfilling lives. When she learned of Jennifer’s project to provide period products to girls in Uganda, she jumped right in, and was proud to help expand Sylvia’s Sisters’ outreach first to schoolgirls in the Richmond region, and then to all menstruators in the region who lack access to period products. Laura is proud of all Sylvia’s Sisters has accomplished with a small group of dedicated volunteers. She lives in Midlothian with her husband Rob and three cats, is also a long-time volunteer for Richmond Animal League, and an avid sewist.
